IDM 6 Schleiz
After a small summer brake, the IDM circus headed to old East-Germany for the 6th round of the championship.
6th round was held in oldest still active race track in Germany.
The place is called Scheitz Dreieck and it has been a place for motorsport all the way from the 1920s.
Naturally it has gone through a lot of changes during the years, but still a very special place indeed.
Due to it`s old roots, the track still runs partly on public roads, so special arrangement have to be done in order to run any events there.
Organizing body is very proud of their history and are willing to do everything in their power to keep this wonderful track and event, still alive.
Naturally the facilities and infra are not as good as on modern tracks, but the awesome track itself makes it a crowd and rider favorite.
For Yamaha-cup riders things kicked of in already familiar fashion with Friday afternoon sessions when it was time for first and second free practice.
I got grips with the track pretty fast and was somewhat happy after second session.
Saturday was again qualifying time and, as always the time differences were very small and everyone except Lucy Glöckner in front had to really fight for starting positions.
We made a tire change during second session and that helped with some grip and even though I had some lap-timer problems I managed to better my lap time, so starting position was reasonable 14th eventually.
Saturday evening the word on the paddock was, that it`s going to rain on Sunday, so we just put the rain tires ready and prepared for what ever it might be.
Wake up on Sunday really was the sound of rain, so we put the rain tires on and then had the idea of making the bike little bit longer by changing the length of chain.
This caused some problems and we only just managed to get it ready before the starting procedure.
I had no time to concentrate for the race, but still though I might have a change to do well.
I got a good start and first corner so I managed to squeeze past few riders and after first lap was lying in around 8th place.
After that I just tried to find my own pace and work my way higher.
About 4 laps from the flag I was lying in 6th place, Lucy crashed from the lead pack and even thou I passed her twice before the race was stopped, she still somehow was given 3rd place finish…
This caused some wondering in the paddock, because there seemed to be different opinions on how the result should have been formed.
Leaders also managed to crash, but their crashes happened on the same lap race was stopped so no complaints there and both of them kept their results as they should have.
Eventually I ended up on 6th place, which is a good result, but my riding performance should have been little bit better.
For some reason, I could not find the right frame of mind for the wet race.
Anyway, happy enough and ready for next race.
